DC Operations Manager
A leading national retail and e-commerce company with a large-scale distribution network is seeking a DC Operations Manager to join their Distribution Center Management team in Chambersburg, PA. This organization is one of the largest specialty retailers in North America, operating hundreds of locations nationwide and fulfilling high-volume e-commerce orders through a robust distribution infrastructure. They carry over 25,000 products from approximately 500 established and emerging brands across all categories.
The DC Operations Manager leads cross-functional teams of non-exempt associates to improve processes, achieve financial and operational excellence, and deliver superior results for retail, operational, and service-related industry and e-commerce functions. This role carries primary responsibility for managing and implementing operational upgrades while maximizing capacity of people, process, and performance. The ability to partner cross-functionally and influence across all levels of the organization is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Champion the company's mission, vision, and values
- Influence accountability to plan, execute, and achieve objectives aligned with company strategy
- Identify patterns and anticipate business needs that drive performance
- Deliver efficient and effective solutions within constraints of time, cost, and scope
- Identify strategic trade-offs between store labor, inventory availability, and upstream expenses
- Measure the effect of process changes and accurately quantify the impact
- Coordinate cross-functionally to launch new initiatives and track/analyze performance
- Raise awareness of process change impacts throughout the enterprise
- Facilitate proactive change management at all levels of the organization impacted by project rollouts
- Influence key stakeholders to achieve results in an autonomous manner
- Determine the most efficient sequence of operations and workflow, recommending methods for maximum associate/people utilization
- Recommend methods for improving associate efficiency and reducing waste of time and effort (e.g., restructuring job duties, merging workflows, job setup, and related)
- Participate in maintaining and testing new systems and processes as part of implementation plans
- Lead/establish best practices to promote associate engagement and enablement
- Partner with leadership to build culture action plans that align to company strategies and business initiatives
- Identify ways to build/reinvent talent capabilities at all levels while identifying opportunities for training and development
- Plan and drive coordinator/non-exempt staffing needs
- Build performance management class in partnership with leadership teams
- Participate in talent calibration, culture survey action planning, goal setting, performance review consultation, and organizational effectiveness
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High-energy, driven professional with strong leadership/team-building skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of distribution and e-commerce operations in a retail environment
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams with diverse goals and responsibilities
- Demonstrated skill in driving initiatives related to teams, projects, and quality
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills; able to execute trouble-shooting and prioritize in a fast-paced setting
- Ability to quickly learn business processes outside one's area of expertise
- Persistence and innovation to apply process improvement initiatives
- Strong computer skills (specifically MS Office, WMS Applications)
- Bachelor's degree preferred but not required
Essential Functions / Work Environment:
- Rotational 24/7 on-call to support the operation at all hours
- Flexible, full-time schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Travel, including overnight stays
- Standing or sitting for long periods of time
- Exposure to distribution center conditions including loud noises, variable temperatures, dusty environments, and strong scents related to product inventory
- Visit stores to develop an understanding of the customer experience and collaborate with field partners
