Senior Maintenance Manager
A leading national retail company operating a large-scale distribution network across the United States. The organization manages high-volume fulfillment operations supporting both brick-and-mortar retail locations and e-commerce channels, leveraging cutting-edge automation and material handling technology throughout its distribution centers.
The Sr. Maintenance Manager is a critical leadership role responsible for the strategic planning, maintenance, and continuous improvement of all engineering and facilities operations within a high-volume distribution center. This position serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for material handling systems, automation, and electronic equipment, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal operational performance. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in fast-paced warehouse/logistics environments and can drive results through people, process, and technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the distribution network's primary troubleshooting expert and technical resource during equipment escalations; coordinate resources to quickly resolve equipment downtime
- Maintain deep technical expertise across material handling systems including package and pallet conveyors, sortation systems, and specialty equipment
- Assess and modify systems where performance does not meet operational expectations, in partnership with operational and technical stakeholders
- Act as SME for electronic equipment such as print-and-apply labeling systems, pick-to-light systems, RF devices, cameras, and scanners
- Deliver complete facilities maintenance services within budget, meeting all contracted KPIs (repair time, response time, budgetary control)
- Manage vendor relationships, budgets, parts supply, and subcontracted services
- Partner with headquarters resources on issues requiring additional scoping, system changes, or network-level impact
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of mechanics, engineers, and maintenance professionals
- Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, and cost optimization
- Manage CAPEX projects and large-scale engineering initiatives for facilities and production operations
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and regulatory standards
- Provide emergency call-out coverage as needed; occasional travel to other distribution centers
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required (Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline with controls emphasis preferred)
- 5+ years of engineering experience supporting, commissioning, and troubleshooting PLC/PC industrial control systems (e.g., major PLC platforms and their industrial networks including DeviceNet, Profibus, and Ethernet I/O)
- Extensive experience with motion control systems, preferably material handling systems, including systems integration and maintenance
- Extensive experience with SCADA Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) and related industrial visualization applications
- Significant experience in CAPEX management, engineering management, and large-scale project engineering for facilities and production operations
- Proven track record of managing, mentoring, and developing engineering and maintenance teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and warehouse management system (WMS) applications
- English proficiency required
- Experience in developing strategic plans for new manufacturing/facilities processing technologies
- Background in distribution/supply chain environments with high-volume automation
